Leanne Tyrrell – Managing Director

Leanne established Tyrrell Publicity & Promotions in 2001, bringing with her more than 20 years of Public Relations and Marketing Communications experience.

She began her career as the National Public Relations Officer at Ansett Australia in 1987 – and was the first female to ever work in the airline’s PR and Corporate Affairs Department. After six years working on the airline’s launch into the international aviation market and on the deregulation of the Australian airline industry, she took on senior PR Managerial roles at both the Hilton on the Park Melbourne and at The Windsor, Leanne has also done a stint in radio promotions for the Austereo Radio network.

It was through these positions that Leanne has built up an excellent relationship with the national Australian media including travel, food and hospitality writers, news reporters, columnists, state and national tourism bodies.

Leanne is also actively involved in various tourism industry boards and bodies, including the Australian Society of Travel Writers and is an executive board member of the Victorian Tourism Sales & Marketing Network.Leanne was appointed as an ambassador of the Carlton Football Club in 2004, and is on the Women of Carlton Board.

Leah Furey – Public Relations Manager

Leah joined the Tyrrell Publicity & Promotions team in November 2010 as Public Relations Manager. Leah has completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne and a Master of Communication at RMIT.

Leah has worked previously as Tourism Development Officer for a regional Victorian Council and was also a Project Manager for the Murrindindi Mitchell Bushfire
Tourism Recovery Group.

Having grown up in the Macedon Ranges and worked in regional tourism – Leah has developed a great understanding of the importance of marketing and communications for regional tourism destinations.



Melissa Perrett – Public Relations Assistant

Melissa is the newest member of the Tyrrell Publicity & Promotions team, having joined us in August 2011. She is currently completing her Bachelor of Arts (Communications) at Monash University, having already completed an Advanced
Diploma of Event Management at Swinburne University of Technology.

Melissa has worked previously at the RSPCA in the Communications Department, and brings with her a love of writing, and enthusiasm for learning all about the regional Victorian tourism industry. Her love of travel spawned from her solo backpacking adventures around Western and Eastern Europe.


Gary Walsh – Copywriter

Well known and respected Australian travel writer – Gary Walsh – is Tyrrell Publicity & Promotion’s contracted copywriter.

Gary has held roles as the Travel Editor of The Age, as well as the Sunday Age and prior to this freelanced for more than six years.

Gary has won the prestigious Australian Society of Travel Writers – Australian Journalist of the Year award three times in - 1998, 1999 and 2001. His travel writing has also been recognised worldwide through taking out: The Inaugural Peregrine Responsible Travel Writing Award, European Travel Commission Award and Thai Airways/Star Flyer (for writing on Thailand).

He now writes travel articles for numerous publications including Australian Gourmet Traveller, Life etc, Vacations, The Australian, Herald Sun, Sunday Herald Sun, plus many more. A born-and-bred Melburnian, Gary is passionate about his city and his state.


Glenn Mitchell – Freelance Journalist

Glenn is a journalist/writer with 30 years experience in the media, public relations and government. He has worked in the electronic and print media including The Australian where he was Victorian bureau chief in charge of 30 journalists as well as writing major stories for the newspaper.

Until March this year he was a senior reporter at The Herald Sun where he held roles as a senior investigative news reporter, gaming reporter and radio and entertainment reporter.

Glenn is known for his versatility as a writer and his wide range of contacts across the media both at the journalist level and at senior management. 

Glenn worked with International Public Relations from 1995 to 1997 where he was a senior account manager handling clients such as the National Australia Bank, the Carlton Football Club and relaunching the career of entertainer Mark Holden.

He was involved in providing major stories to the media and negotiating deals with television and newspapers on purchasing stories from clients under his management.

Glenn was responsible for the M&M's campaign where Carlton players wore jumpers of a light blue M&M. It was the first time in history the Australian Football League had allowed such a promotion to take place.

He also handled several crisis management issues and developed media strategies and issues management documents for private sector companies on how best to deal with the media.

From 1992-1995, Glenn was a senior advisor to the then Minister for Business and Employment, Mr Phillip Gude.

Glenn is now freelancing copywriting for a number of firms and recently had a 16-minute documentary launched on the dangers of drowsy driving for transport workers.

The team at Tyrrell Publicity & Promotions has been recognised by the national media as a leader in tourism Public Relations, having received three national media awards. Tyrrell Publicity & Promotions has received three consecutive Australian Society of Travel Writers Travel Journalism Awards for Excellence in the category of “Best Australian Regional Tourism Organisation” PR Campaign - for Melbourne and Surrounds Marketing (2007) and Great Ocean Road (2008/2009).
